Dear valued constituent,

As the former Mayor of Chicago Heights and Chairman of the House Cities & Villages Committee, I work closely not only with mayors in my district, but mayors across Illinois.

In Springfield, the Illinois Municipal League is a resource I work with to protect and strengthen municipal governments. One of my top priorities this legislative session was to protect the current level of funding municipal governments receive from the state. Municipal governments receive a portion of state income taxes collected and use them for municipal operations and many services you expect. The Illinois Municipal League sent the correspondence below to mayors and village officials across Illinois.

“As you know, the Illinois Municipal League’s (IML) ongoing top priority is the preservation and restoration of the Local Government Distributive Fund (LGDF). This year, we were successful in preserving LGDF in the State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2022 Budget with no new cuts. The LGDF rate will remain flat. Today, I sent a letter to all members of the General Assembly thanking them for their support in protecting municipal revenues. I particularly want to thank the House Cities and Villages Committee Chairman, Representative Anthony DeLuca (D-Chicago Heights), for his continued leadership and dedication to this issue. Being a former mayor, Chairman DeLuca was a top advocate in the House during this year’s budget process, ensuring that LGDF was protected in the final SFY 2022 Budget.”

I’ll continue to work hard on your behalf to improve the quality of life in our communities.

If you have any questions, please contact my constituent service office at 708-754-7900 or email repdeluca@sbcglobal.net.

Sincerely,
