Leadership Term Limits Legislation Passes House

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Anthony DeLuca, D-Chicago Heights, issued the

following statement following passage of his leadership term limits bill out the

Illinois House of Representatives with bipartisan support:

“The strong momentum and bipartisan support that my legislation has received with this vote sends a clear message that it is a new day in Illinois,” DeLuca said. “It is my sincere hope that this significant reform to place term limits on legislative leadership will be received positively by the Senate and placed on the governor’s desk.”

DeLuca’s House Bill 642 would limit all leadership positions for both parties and both chambers to 10 years per member. If the legislation were to pass out of both chambers of the Illinois General Assembly and be signed into law it would take effect at the beginning of the 103rd General Assembly. The legislation passed the house on a vote of 115-0-1.
